pentimento | the presence or emergence of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been changed and painted over

A collection of collage compositions created from silence and noise, field recordings, conversations, text to speech fiction and non-fiction, domestic objects, percussion, broken music box, synths, found sounds, loops and voice memos.

Pentimento is intimate and personal and attempts to express sound as language in various forms. Melody, noise and atmospherics are threaded together to form an anthology of short stories that shift between thoughts, emotions and environments.

Ideas explored include the act of listening and the roles of sound versus music, the creative muse, mental health and chronic illness, all through the veil of painterly layers that have been built up and erased, scratched out and recovered.

Voice and voices also play a key role, as field recordings interplay on an equal level with text to speech, founds sounds and recorded tones. The pieces share a subjective style from the point of view of different narrators, following their own thought processes and flow, which sees a collage of texts – from Baudrillard to the poetry of Sylvia Plath, the lyrics of Nick Cave and sound theory, to biographical vignettes about Seymour Berstein and Maria Callas – interweave to gradually reveal a search for bigger truths.

This double album collects revised releases previously issued digitally 2020–2021.
